53 3/4 (2019) 20" x 20"
Introducing 53 3/4. 53 3/4 is a photograph (it is not burned) and is the inspiration art for the Beer Guppies show. - the Clean Lakes Alliance Benefit at Waypoint Public House featuring Delta Beer Lab. The fish in the photograph gave us guidance to produce the Beer Guppies - groovy, pop, burning fuse and acrylic paintings made on coated paper. Each has their own personality. As a group they are a blast!
This wall paper design was installed in 1953 by Stick’s Mom’s in her powder room in Viroqua, Wisconsin. We discovered this paper under layers of paint and wall paper. We took an image and digitally enhanced it to make this groovy fish photograph.
1953 will be on display until May 18th and can be picked up at Waypoint Public House after that date.
Framed 24 x 24 with black metal frame, glass and 2-inch white mat.
Shipping if needed is additional, billed at cost.
Primitive, modern, and abstract - a Stick Vega original.
American gunpowder artist, Vega places powder and fuses on the surface of the board, which he positions horizontally on the floor. When ignited, first the fuses burns instantly along the cord lines, igniting the gunpowder and creating loud bangs and flashes of fire, which then vanish in clouds of smoke. The result is a textured surface that looks and feels like an explosion—the acrylic paint on panel is blackened, charred, and erupted, arrested in a state of being created in a flash.
When the fuse is lit there a moment of uncertainty. What will happen? It is at that moment that true art exists.
