Stick Vega - 50 Burns Of Gray - Waypoint Public House
The Blast Factory is thrilled to announce a Stick Vega's new show. 50 Burns Of Gray will debut Tuesday, April 4th at The Waypoint Public House. The opening will feature a Val Dieu beer event and if weather permits a demonstration of Stick's gunpowder and fuse burned art process.
"I am really excited to present some new work at the Waypoint. ." I created these larger scale works over 50 days in January and February of this year. I used a number of new techniques with layering, burning, whitewashing, and burning again. The weather made it necessary. Some days I could paint. Some days I could blow things up. I did some of the burn work in zero degree weather. My work environment was the gray and black tundra outside. I painted what I could see.", said Stick Vega.
Concepts for the paintings developed after Vega photographed areas around The Blast Factory in high contrast black and white. "The gray, cold world came to life and was more defined. Simple patterns of broken ice suddenly looked alive", Vega noted.
50 Burns Of Gray will run through May 27, 2017.
Vega continued, "I hope people see there are ways to combat our depressing winters. I believe they will see a minimalist power and energy in the layers, erasures and burns.
